Wind tunnel

As part of this year's conference, a tour of the wind tunnel of the local ForWind Group will be offered. ForWind is a joint center for wind energy research of the Universities of Oldenburg, Hannover, and Bremen and in 2017 commissioned a turbulent wind tunnel for measurements of special wind conditions on the campus of the University of Oldenburg. The wind tunnel has a beam cross section of 3.0 m x 3.0 m as well as a measuring section of 30 meters in length and enables the imitation of real atmospheric currents with a maximum speed of 40 m/s by means of a special active grid. Areas of application of the wind tunnel include above all the investigation of interactions between atmospheric flows and wind farms, wind turbines and their components. The aim is to obtain accurate data on the operating behavior of wind turbines and large offshore wind farms. For this, there are a variety of standard measurement methods available, such as pressure probes, single and multi-dimensional hot wires, and laser Doppler anemometers.

Auditory Garden at House of Hearing

The Auditory Garden is located around the ‚House of Hearing‘ and displays several exhibits on hearing and acoustics. The Auditory Garden is a combination of science, art, and nature. Among other things, you will find exhibits such as the auditory throne (hearing aid to sit in), whispering mirrors, Helmholtz resonators or the binaural pond. During the guided tour the individual exhibits and their connection with hearing, hearing loss and hearing rehabilitation will be explained.
